Gratitude is the topic. In the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful. I begin to write with His and ONLY His guidance. He is without us all and we are because He is. Nothing is without Him and He is without everything. It is He, who guides us all in each step of our life and without his guidance, we are a punishment to ourselves. I seek refuge in Allah from my own self. May Allah, the exalted, never leave us!
Today, I shall jot down a few thoughts and words on gratitude or being grateful, for gratitude is the way of life. To being with, let us be thankful to Allah for giving us life, the air that we breathe, the water that we drink, the clothes that we wear, the shelter that we live under, the parents who brought us up, the friends who are kind to us, the sun that gives light, the moon that shines upon us in the dark, the eyes through which we see, the hands we work through, the legs, the heart, the lungs, the liver and the whole universe that are working so hard, 24/7 365 days a year, to keep us all alive.
We are limited and so is our mind
I can go on and on jotting down one by one, all Allah’s blessings upon us, but my life and your life would come to an end, but not His blessings upon us. The whole world, the greatest scholars of Islam, Hinduism, Christianity and all the other religions, the scientists, the philosophers, the thinkers and everyone can start counting, but nobody can claim that we have come to an end to His blessings upon us.
I cannot keep counting of the things we can be thankful to Allah for. My entire life would not be enough if I start counting the blessings that Allah has showered upon us. Your life would not be adequate to note down all Allah’s blessings. Allah perfectly knows how weak we are and how dependent we are on Him. His blessings upon us are innumerable.
Allah has revealed in The Holy Quran, فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ. That simply means “Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny?”. He has given us everything in abundance but we, because of our shortsightedness, cannot see or we simply refuse to see. Our focus is on what we do not have. We do not have this, and we do not have that. Always complaints. We do not seem to be interested in being happy. We simply claim in words that we are looking for happiness. Happiness is very much available here, but we are all looking there.
Gratitude is Wine for Soul – Go Get Drunk!
We focus on what we do not have and in turn become sad which results in complaining Allah for not giving us enough. It is our fault that we have our focus on a wrong direction. He has bestowed upon us that we cannot even count. A person facing West will always complain that there’s no Sun, though the light will be upon him and in his surroundings. So in this case, he is simply looking at a wrong direction. He cannot blame the sun for his wrong direction.
For such people, Life which is a blessing, a gift becomes a weapon of torture and a prison of their own making. Hence, We can’t blame the laws of Physics when a twig snaps because we leaned on it for support. Let us choose the path of gratitude and be grateful for what we have. Approaching life with gratitude doesn’t change your circumstances. It changes everything. May Allah help us all in each step that we take and guide us to become his true slave. Aameen.
